Mary Lewis Hanchett Jones

1943-2017

Mary Lewis Hanchett Jones, 73, of Niceville, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2017.

Our beloved Mary was born to Hadden Lamoreaux Hanchett and Helene Van Appledorn Hanchett on August 27, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Her father was a businessman, Bible teacher, Presbyterian deacon, and veteran who fought in North Africa under Patton.  Her mother was a church hostess who served Wednesday night meals to scores of members of Riviera Presbyterian Church of South Miami.

Mary was a graduate of Palmetto High School of South Miami and of Jones Business College, Miami.  She labored as a librarian and helped build the libraries of two Christian schools, tried to be a positive Christian influence on the students who entered her realm, and contributed to the libraries of several other Christian schools and churches.

She is survived by Archie P. Jones, her husband of almost 50 years; sisters Mrs. Bonnie Sandell, of Charlottesville, Virginia and Mrs. Helene Valentine, of South Miami; son Daniel P. Jones of Santa Rosa Beach; daughter Jennie Jones of Fort Worth, Texas; and granddaughters Elizabeth Jones, Christina Jones, Katherine Jones, and Marissa Jones, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Mary will be remembered by those who were blessed to have known her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a lady with spunk and a sense of humor; a devoted follower of Jesus Christ who was dedicated to the great doctrines of the Reformed faith, hated to miss Sunday worship, and believed in applying Biblical principles to all areas of life; a Christian activist in conservative, anti-communist, and pro-life causes and political campaigns; and a staunch advocate who dedicated her life to Christian education.

A memorial service for Mary will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Valparaiso, Wednesday, June 28th at 3:00 p.m.  A brief reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may donate to D. James Kennedy Ministries (djameskennedy.org).
