Audrey B Lyons

Audrey Lyons passed away Sunday, January 13th, after 96 years of living a full and glorious life.  She was the daughter of Ernest and Winona Favre and was born in Gulfport, MS.  From an early age Audrey learned to be an independent, self-sufficient and forward thinking woman. She was raised with two sisters and four brothers and learned the skills of maintaining a balanced and self-sustained household.    This was especially true during the depression where most of the food for her family of nine was grown, raised and made at home.  Living on the Gulf, fishing and crabbing were essential and contributed to Audrey’s development of excellent culinary skills learned at the hand of her Cajun father.  Shortly after being schooled for bookkeeping, she worked at the Gulfport shipyard.  Audrey met her true love, Wilbur Lyons, while he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base and they were married for 46 years.  They had two daughters, Carla and Cathy, and raised them with much love and devotion.  After her husband’s deployments and moves, they settled down in Valparaiso where Audrey lived over 60 years.  Audrey lived a vibrant and active life throughout her years and remained in close contact with her siblings, daughters, grandchildren and friends.  Family was of utmost importance to Audrey and was considered by all to be the matriarch of the family.  She was always available to anyone who needed her and was the first to be at the doorstop with a pot of chicken soup if you were down.  Audrey always had time to talk to her family and friends and give them words of encouragement and praise.  She will be missed greatly by all who knew her and her kindness and love will live on in our hearts.

Audrey is survived by her sister, Vivian Bowles of Birmingham, AL; her two daughters and their spouses, Carla and Dexter Martin and Cathy and Phillip Groen; four grandchildren and their spouses, Wynn and Amy Martin, Aimee and Scott Teel, Jeff Martin and Jennifer and Wes Usher; seven great grandchildren, Jarrett and Kamden Martin, Hannah and Ryan Teel, Justin, Griffin and Grayson Usher.
