Christopher W. Morgan Jr.

Christopher “Chris” Morgan age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, in Bluewater Bay, Niceville, Florida. He was vibrant and active until the end of his life.

Chris was born in Queens, NY on September 3, 1923 to Althea and Christopher Morgan, Sr.  He had one sister Leah Peterson who he admired and loved dearly. He graduated from Gorton High School Yonkers, NY in 1941. 

After the bombing at Pearl Harbor in 1941, Chris responded by joining the Army Air Force determined to defend his country as a pilot during WWII.  He graduated from flight school in 1943 and began flying an A-36/P-51A fighter plane.  After being captured by the Japanese during a wartime mission, he spent 18 months as a Prisoner of War in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar).

After the war, he attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and later continued his education at Thomas Edison College in Edison, New Jersey.

In 1952, he married the love of his life Constance “Connie” Kelley, in Bronx, New York.  Their marriage would last until her passing in 2011.  Chris is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Retirement brought Chris and Connie to Bluewater Bay in Niceville, FL, where he enjoyed golf and volunteering at the VA Clinic at Eglin Air Force Base.  Chris found great strength and comfort in his faith in God, and through the fellowship of his friends at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Niceville. 

He was a survivor and a true patriot, and lived a life of integrity and honor.  He will be remembered often and missed very much by those who had the privilege to know him.

A memorial service celebrating Chris’s life will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11AM at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Niceville, FL.
