I started working for Gayle when he was assistant branch chief in the seventies at Eglin. We later became supervisors and worked closely together. More important we became friends. I remember hot dogs for lunch at the BX. snack bar, and of course an occasional cold tall Old Milwaukee at Bens Lake in the evening after work. In the years after our retirements we would run into Gayle and Gene at Big Lots or the Sam's club and others around town.
He was a good leader a good friend also a good family man who loved his kids and grandkids dearly. I will miss him.

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words. Gayle was like a father to me. I met and worked for him in the 70's and again in the 90's. There was nothing you could ask of him that he wouldn't try to get for you. Everything I have and everything I am is a result of him being in my life. I Pray for him everyday, I'm going to miss him so. I know there's a heaven and it's better with him there. I love you Gayle, I am forever in your debt!

Grand-Daddy you are already so missed!!!!! I know you would tell me not to cry and to be happy but no amount of time with you was ever enough for me or your family! I love you Papa more than you will ever know. I will cherish so many wonderful memories I had with you and Granny! You taught me to swim, ride a bike and even drove me to work on the very first day at my very first job. I went on a special trip with you to see so many historical sites that I will forever hold dear. I could go one for days about all of the life changing memories we shared but the truth is i'm sure I would forget to post many as I grew up at your home with Granny. I cant believe I am saying this but rest easy Papa and know that your family will continue to live on in hopes of making you proud from Heaven and one thing I may never told you was you where my hero and the person I wanted to make the most proud because you where like my father! WE LOVE YOU PAPA!!!! " Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4

Leave it to my brother to write his own obituary! Who does that? A kind, thoughtful and sweet guy does...he didn't want any of his family members to have do that unpleasant task. Gayle and I became close when our Dad was in Intensive Care recovering from a massive heart attack in 1995. My Mom was also in that same hospital with a serious health problem. Gayle made the situation so much easier for me and threw in his famous humor as well. I will miss our long phone conversations in which we always tried to solve the world's problems. Thank you for being you.

We met Gayle in the late 50s, early 60s when we were stationed in Greenville, S.C. We celebrated many a holiday together and outings. We then went to Savannah, GA. Then Nam came along and we went our separate ways. When the computer age came into play, I looked Gayle's name up and made a phone call - a voice from the past. We visited he and Gene a few years ago, had a great visit and have kept in touch through recent years. He was always such a great guy and a joy to be around.
