Hazel Kathryn Kay O’Donnell, passed away October 20, in her home in Freeport, FL. She was 82. Kay was born on May 12, 1938 to Hazel Gordon Jones and Pete Jones in Clovis New Mexico. Her family moved to Portales New Mexico where she graduated high school in 1956. After high school Kay met Edward O’Donnell and was married shortly after on September 16, 1956. While Ed finished college, the two moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado along with three children, Damon, Dari, and Doran. A fourth child, Devon was born a few years later. Kay was a homemaker, loved silversmithing, and was a member of the local garden club. She was an active member of St. Paul Methodist Church and worked hard raising four children, much of the time alone, as Ed traveled for work. 

After the children were grown, Kay and Ed moved to New Mexico, and eventually ended up in Freeport, Florida where they lived happily together until his death in 2002 after 46 years of marriage.

A few years after Ed’s death, Kay met her best friend Merwin Cray Merv. They traveled the world together on many cruises, sailing her last this year, a 58-day cruise around South America. Kay traveled Europe, went to Antarctica, and traveled all over the United States including taking her children to Hawaii and her grandchildren to Alaska.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Edward O’Donnell, her parents, Hazel and Pete Jones, and two sisters Betty Jones McBee and Helen Lee Jones Dunn. She is survived by three sons, Damon, Doran, and Devon O’Donnell, and one daughter Dari Lee Bradley. Her family included six grandchildren, William and Chris O’Donnell, Chelsea Frost and Courtnea Bradley, Staci O’Donnell, and Tiffany Epp, three great-grandchildren, Alexis Lampert, Natalie and Emily O’Donnell, and two great-great grandchildren, Victoria O’Donnell and Cecelia Thorson.
