Joseph Peter Giangrosso, Jr.

August 6, 1947 ~ April 26, 2021 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

Joseph Peter Giangrosso, Jr, 73, of Niceville, Florida, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Although he was diagnosed with diabetes at age 16, he led an active life of numerous professional and personal achievements. He continued to live life to the fullest despite enduring heart surgeries and dialysis.

Joe was born in Birmingham, Alabama to father Joseph Peter and mother Rose Schilleci Giangrosso. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, and graduated from Bessemer High School in 1965. He continued his studies at Auburn University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering and Minor in Mechanical Engineering, the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1977 studying engineering statistical analysis, the University of Florida in 1981 with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, and Troy State University in 1988 with a Master of Science in Engineering Management.

Joe began his career as a DOD contractor in January 1973 and then a DOD civilian in December 1973. He became a subject-matter expert in the radio frequency spectrum and test ranges. After more that 34 years of federal service, Joe retired in 2008. His passion and love for engineering had him return to work as a DOD contractor. Joe loved his work and valued being able to work every day. He also served his community as a member with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-4 of Destin, Florida.

Joe loved Guy Harvey and fishing, particularly deep-sea fishing down in the Florida Keys. His final request was to have a burial at sea, and to become part of an artificial reef formation along Key West which helps create new marine habitats for fish and other sea life. Joe also donated faithfully and graciously to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, and many other foundations.

Joe was a kind, generous and loving man who is survived by his close friend and confidant Linda Hardy; a dedicated father to Joseph Peter Giangrosso III and Michael Vincent Giangrosso; brother to Sara, wife of Larry Reese; and his beloved cat, Bella. He also leaves behind Clarissa Golemboski, wife of Joe III, and 3 step-grandchildren Mikayla, Gillian and Noah Golemboski; and Andrea Giangrosso, wife of Michael, and 3 grandchildren Mikey, Makayla and Maggie Giangrosso.
