Mr. Julian Cornelius “Scrammy” Lane, age 90 of DeFuniak Springs, Florida went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 6, 2022 surrounded by all his children and other family members.  He was born on September 19, 1931 in Cedartown, Georgia to parents Coy Milford Lane and Georgia Henderson Lane.

Scrammy is survived by his children Steven Lane (Terri), Sharon Lane Highsmith (Stan), Joel Lane (Cheryl), Barry Lane (Dorothy), David Lane (Jennifer), and his sister Peggy Lane Moody.

Scrammy is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Scrammy is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Bennett Lane, his brothers, Billy Gerald Lane, Charles Johnny “Mickey” Lane and his sister Jackie Lois Lane.

A veteran who enlisted for a brief stint in the U.S. Navy and then ended his career as a Radio Technician in the U.S. Air Force. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant when he retired in 1974.  He was a beloved Sunday School teacher at Westwood Baptist Church for many years until he and Shirley moved to DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Scrammy had two major passions in his life, playing bluegrass mandolin and golf. The love of golf and music were things passed down to all of his children. His musical talents brought joy to so many. He was a member of the “Beats Me Band” and they played for the residents of the Chautauqua Nursing Center every week. Above all he was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend to everyone.

A Celebration of Life is planned for February 2, 2022 in Niceville, Florida.  For further details please contact one of his children.

A graveside service for Scrammy will be at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida on February 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made in his name to the Walton County Council on Aging or Socks Thrift Store.
