Lester W. (Nickey) Plant, age 85 of Pensacola, Florida passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Florida. Nickey was born on June 16, 1936 in Covington County, Alabama. He volunteered for military service in the United States Navy in 1957 and served aboard the USS Southerland and was stationed in Sasebo, Japan. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Nickey worked a variety of professions including retail grocery (meat market manager), Insurance, and construction. Afterwards Nickey was employed by the United States Postal Service advancing from route delivery person and clerk to Manager of Safety and Health in the Orlando (Florida) Sectional Center. He retired from the Postal Service in 1992. He was a member of Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida. Nickey loved fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends on Deep Creek in Bryson City, North Carolina. Nickey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra Plant, mother-in-law Lou Merle Peters, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Linda Peters, dear nephew and family Ken Peters (Mary) great nieces Sadie and Kaden Peters, nephew Scott Linton (Michelle), great nephew Harrison Linton, niece Jami Linton, and his special buddy, toy poodle Sidney. Nickey was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Bessie Plant, sister, Sandra Plant Linton, father-in-law and best friend Linton M. Peters, and niece Kimberly Linton Peters. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 23 at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home with Visitation at 1:00 PM and Service at 2:00 PM followed by graveside service with military honors at Sunset Cemetery, Valparaiso, Florida. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by the medical staff at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Florida.
