Mabel Mills Herndon

Mabel , age 82 passed away on October 8, 2020.  Mabel was born in Valparaiso, Fl.  On August 7, 1938 to Warren and Bama Hutto Mills and was a lifelong resident of Niceville. Mabel resided at the Manor of Blue Water Bay from April 2014 until October 1, 2020, where she met many kind people and enjoyed playing bingo and chit-chatting which she did not do much of before but learned to.  She felt the need to help other residence living with her while at the Manor.  The Manor became her home and extended family.  I would like to give sincere thanks to the staff of the Manor at Blue Water Bay for their dedicated care and friendship during her stay.

I would also like to give sincere thanks to our Vitas Health Care Team, Lora, Jen, Cristal, Valarie, Angela, Carmen, and Tom for the care they had given Mama on her final days.  Mama was a soft-spoken, kind, and gentle woman that thought of others before herself.  She was a caregiver herself of several family members and neighbors in her lifetime.  Her past time while at home was sewing, crochet, quilting, and making dolls. 

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Bama Mills, her husband, Arthur Herndon, her son, Roger Herndon, and her sister Kathryn Alford.  Mabel is survived by one daughter, Dana Herndon Broxson, and her husband Aaron Broxson of Freeport, Fl.  She is also survived by two grandchildren, Wesley Cumbie in Niceville and Wendy Boardman in Mossy Head, two step-grandchildren, Tony Broxson of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Lorie Broxson of Austin, Texas. Five great-grandchildren, Caleigh and Baleigh Cumbie of Niceville, Angelica Ward, Jack Boardman, and Jase Fowler of Mossy Head, and one step great-granddaughter, Kylie Broxson of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tues, October 13, 2020, from 1-2 p.m. at the McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home Niceville, Fl. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Doyle Alford.  Following services burial will be in Hatcher Cemetery, Freeport, Fl.
