Mary “Molly” Hopkins Myers passed away on September 26 at her home in Valparaiso. At her side were her husband of fifty years Charles R. Myers, their daughter Elizabeth Myers Igo, and their sons John J. Myers and Andrew R. Myers. Molly was born in New Orleans on November 8, 1946, to Joseph and Thelma Hopkins. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Tulane University, and the University of Texas at Austin. She is survived by husband and children, five grandchildren and five siblings.
As the Air Force took Molly and her husband to more than a dozen assignments and then to Valparaiso to retire, Molly devoted herself to her family and was always a leader helping others in the community. She was, for example, soccer team mom, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts leader, PTA officer, thrift shop manager, military spouses’ club president, lector and religious education teacher, library volunteer, English teacher for Koreans, and symphony guild officer. As busy as she was, she was also an avid reader, and friends were impressed by how much she knew about everything.
The family plans to get friends together around the time of her birthday in November to remember and celebrate her life.
