Ret. Msgt Roy Griffith of Niceville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at his home. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 E. John Sims Parkway, Niceville, Florida 32578. Vistation will begin at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am. In the evening, a celebration of life will be held at the Amvets Post 78, 910 Valastics Way, Valparaiso, Florida 32580 at 6:30 pm.
Roy was born on July 1, 1947, in Corbin, Kentucky to Hobart & Maudie (Smith) Griffith. He graduated from Lynn Camp High School in 1965. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Roy's Air Force career in Civil Engineering took him to many places around the world. He did multiple stints in Okinawa and Nevada, along with time in Vietnam, Philippines, and Maryland before eventually settling in at Eglin AFB in the Panhandle of Florida. Roy married Chieko (Fujita) Griffith, November 19, 1969, during his second assignment in Okinawa. He retired in 1986 after 20 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, He worked for Killingworth Pest Control for 22 years. In retirement, Roy continued his involvement and support of the Amvets Post 78 and American Legion Post 221. He enjoyed fishing, westerns and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Chieko Griffith, of Niceville, Florida, his three sons, Charles Griffith of Niceville, Florida, Bobby Griffith and wife Linda of Valparaiso, Florida, Gregory Griffith and wife Rachel of Crestview, Florida, Four grandchildren, Christopher Griffith, Corey Griffith, Aaron Griffith and wife Myrella, Evan Griffith and wife Mary, three great grandchildren, Christa, Everly and Grayson, and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hobart and Maudie, siblings Willie Griffith, Sherrol Patrick, Bunny Griffith, Dorothy Faye Lockaby, Don Griffith and Carol Ann Greer, and great granddaughter Reilyn Griffith.
