Fern Helman Trambley, 69 of Niceville, FL passed away on 11 February 2017 from the complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Fern was born in Allentown, PA in 1947 to the late Philip and Frances Helman. She attended Temple University and received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970. She then worked as a grade school teacher in intercity Philadelphia.
   In 1978 she attended New Mexico State University and received a Masters Degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology. While at New Mexico State, she worked at the Woman’s Center championing woman’s rights and was a liaison to national women’s organizations. She worked as a counselor for an inpatient children’s hospital unit in Clovis NM; 2 years later she was promoted to supervisor.
While working in Clovis she met the love of her life, Joseph P. Trambley. In 1974 they moved to Fresno, CA where Joseph worked on his Ph.D. Fern worked at a clinic for abused children. Upon Joseph’s graduation he, joined the USAF in 1988. Fern followed Joseph during his military career and were stationed in San Antonio TX, Incirlik Turkey, Bitburg GE, Massachusetts and finally Eglin AFB, FL 2002 where they made Blue Water Bay their permanent home. Their son Philip was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1987.
   During Joseph’s assignments Fern worked as a substitute teacher. At Niceville High School she started as a volunteer, and then became a substitute teacher from 2005 until 2010. She was also an avid NHS Band mom. Fern has always worked as an advocate for children and teenagers. She had an affinity and energy for working with the children and teenagers. She made a positive, lasting impression on all who met her. Her students greatly admired and respected her. Fern loved to socialize, cook, travel, and make quills. Fern, wife, loving mother, sister and aunt, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and be remembered for your sharp mind, strong will and sense of fairness and concern for others. Fern is survived by her husband Joseph of 35 years, son Philip, sister, Lenore Amir, nieces Amy Chirco, Jodie Benheim and Pamela Hart.
Fern was a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Fort Walton Beach. She was also a lifetime member of the Hadassah Medical Organization. There will be private funeral arrangements In lieu of flowers please make donations to Temple Beth shalom or to the Niceville High School Band.
